The vast expanse of land held no other being in sight for miles around. Not one scent was carried by the breeze that gust across the field, making the magnolias shiver. His emerald eyes searched over and over, every angle, every rock, but nothing- no one ever came. Eros' claws dug in to the soft dirt beneath his pink paws. The loneliness crept in slowly, then completely from nose to tail tip. It shook him violently at the thought of finally being all alone. This was it. Maybe this was the end? For the best, these situations always happen for the best. The clans, Hazel and I, we will all disappear. The land will be renewed. Eventually life may come back to here...maybe.. He shook his head mournfully. He missed that beautiful she-cat...how wrong he had done her. Eros felt regret strike him, but quickly shook it away. He would not regret her or anything that had happened...he merely wished there was more time. The wind gusted through again, not even granting him a word or whisper, or scent. The aging tomcat pressed his belly to the ground, folding his tail tightly to his body. He shut his eyes tightly one last time, afraid to open them and see the same empty field again.

"Hey! Hey you!" A voice found itself carried in the wind. Also carried in the wind, was a cat. A she-cat who had aged, and with age had sprouted wings, much like her father's metallic ones. These however, were red and were almost like velvet in appearance. Cardinal had caught Eros' scent in the faint breeze. "Someone! Finally", she thought. It had been almost moons since Cardinal had really seen any cats around. She flew over to the tom, seeing his eyes close. "Oh please, please don't be dead..." she pleaded in her head. "Hello? Are you still awake in there?" She stretched one of her red paws to give him a poke.
OOC: I haven't written like this in at least two years... I apologize in advance!

ooc: girrrl, I haven't written anything in for-ev-er! I apologize in advance as well. But don't worry about it.
ic: Eros' eyes flew open to the magnificent sight in front of him. It was almost surreal. This is it, death has come for me and he brought an angel to take me. The white tom shook his head at the ridiculous thought that clouded his brain. No, no! It's just a loner she-cat... He lost his train of thought as he suddenly realized that this was no mirage. Standing before him was another feline, like himself! Someone who must have been wandering aimlessly looking for anyone else. He stood to his feet and licked his shoulder self-consciously, embarrassed with himself. "I-I apologize. I haven't seen another cat in moons." he rasped. Eros fought the urge to look away from the newcomer. The bottoms of his paws were tingling with excitement. He wanted to play it off cool, even though deep down all he wanted was to cling to the other and talk for hours, never leaving her side. I sound completely desperate! Has it truly been that long since I've merely brushed coats with another cat? The pink and white tom puffed out his chest, feigning confidence. "My name is Eros." He flicked his tail across his paws and sat up like a true gentleman. "I didn't catch your scent at all. I must be losing my touch." His emerald eyes tore across the she-cat, taking in every inch of her. This has to be real.

Cardinal smiled. "You're not the only one." She lowered her raised paw. Gently closing and reopening her eyes, she spoke again. "I'm Cardinal. Nice to meet you... or anyone really." Cardinal's wings tucked in close to her body, curling her tail around her paws. "I only caught yours down the wind stream.. Otherwise I probably would've missed you entirely." She laughed lightly before continuing. "Then again, in a field full of magnolias, it's hard to smell anything but magnolias. I can't blame you. Cardinal gave her red chest a couple licks to clean herself; after not seeing anyone, she hadn't really bothered to clean her coat. She knew she'd much rather be flying around anyway. She looked back at Eros with similar green eyes. It was hard to believe that these green eyes weren't just reflections of her own, but actually belonged to another cat. The tom appeared aged, but she couldn't tell if that was entirely related to how old he was, or maybe he was famished. "When was the last time you ate? Are you hungry, at all? I certainly wouldn't mind catching a bite to eat with you."

Eros twitched his ears, unable to recall the last time he had eaten anything. He had been so lost and without purpose when he couldn't find anyone that he had been about ready to give up on himself. Saliva flooded his mouth at the thought of sinking his fangs in to the warm flesh of a field mouse or rabbit. "It's very nice to meet you, Cardinal. It would be a delight to be able to hunt besides another cat." He responded smoothly. He stood to his paws and raised his maw to the wind, testing it for any prey scent. Eros looked towards Cardinal with narrowed eyes. The amount of relief that ran through his veins was unbearable. A new source of energy brought a sparkle in to his emerald gaze. If he hadn't met this she-cat he could have laid here until the Earth claimed his remains. "I must be one lucky tom. I thought that after all I've been through, this would have been my final demise." His fur had started to dull with age, and his scars were becoming more prominent as it thinned out. Despite his age, Eros still felt a fire in his spirit. Through all the ups and downs something still kept him alive. As the wind blew, the magnolias trembled and a faint scent of prey was carried along with it.

"Well, I'm glad I could be that cat for you!"She said, her eyes squinting with her smile. "You've must have lived a long hard life; you have the evidence all over you. Since I've been young, there haven't been many cats around. I remember my mother, unfortunately that's about it.... but anyways." Bird song echoed in the magnolia field. Also with age, Cardinal learnt how to control her second power; bird calls. She smiled, and waited a moment. In a distance, there was a bird making its way over. Cardinal chuckled softly. "There are some perks that come with hunting with me. Some may call it cheating, but it's rather smart, I think." She crouched down into the magnolias, their bright flowers hopefully causing enough of a distraction to the bird. As it drew closer, Cardinal pushed up with her hind legs, throwing herself up at it, catching it in her mouth with a swift motion. She landed back on the ground, looking at Eros with another smile. She muffled, "Did you want to do it the old fashioned way?

Eros' eyes widened with surprise at Cardinal's speed and precision. His fur was slightly ruffled with embarrassment. He definitely felt like the underdog in this moment. The pink and white tom smirked, playing it off cool, although he was deeply impressed. "Great catch!" He praised her. "I don't think I could have done that. You were like a spider waiting for a foolish fly." The smell of fresh kill made his mouth water again, and his paws itch. As much as he would like to dig in to a warm meal, he felt inclined to find his own the 'old fashion way' as the she-cat had called it. "I have some moves of my own." He meowed before tasting the air and catching the faint scent of a nearby mouse. Quickly, Eros crouched to the dry dirt and slid quietly through the magnolias. His movements were completely relaxed as he fell in to the true nature of a feline. Up ahead a speckled brown field mouse stood amongst the flowers, nibbling on a of couple seeds. It's whiskers twitched, eyes vacant and unaware of it's approaching doom. Eros estimated how many strides it would take to reach the prey before launching himself ahead. The mouse didn't have a chance. As soon as it recognized it's life was in danger, Eros was already above it. Eros placed a deadly blow to the mouse, stunning it before he wrapped his jaws around it's neck. The satisfying crunch of bone filled his ears, and the metallic taste of blood greeted his tongue. The taste was so satisfying. He turned to look at Cardinal, only six feet away, with a gleam of satisfaction in his eyes. "How was that?" He meowed through a mouthful of fur.

Cardinal smiled, shrugged, and replied. "I guess it wasn't too bad." She laughed a bit. She began to gnaw on the bird she had caught, the food warming her body and her belly. "I didn't realize I could call birds like that until I was a bit older, but it sure comes in handy. Birds don't even know whats coming.... much like that mouse you got there!" Cardinal took another bite of her prey. It was great to finally have someone to share a meal with. "Plus, I think you got a couple of years on me, so in all honesty I'm not too surprised. You still got it though." She smiled once more at Eros before really getting into her prey.

Eros padded over to where Cardinal was feasting. He sat across from the she-cat leaving the dead mouse on the ground for a moments rest. He closed his eyes, thanking the universe for sending him this she-cat and the meal he was about to tear to pieces. He opened his eyes and gazed momentarily at the greying clouds above. There was no scent of rain coming, but the day still held a slight chill to it. Despite all of that, the day held more beauty in it than ever before. "In all honesty, I didn't think I was going to catch it at all. I think it was dumb luck." He mused, before biting a chunk from the mouses flesh. The mouse was a bit stringy and thin, but a catch is a catch. Soon life would be bountiful and plump. They would all be eating like kings once greenleaf was here. Eros let the wind rustle his fur as he took another bite. "So, have you been a loner all your life?" He asked, curious about the she-cats past. His blazing emerald eyes gave her a once over, admiring her strength and beauty.

Cardinal looked at the tom. "You really think so? That doesn't sound too confident. Also, no luck is ever 'dumb'. Just very well timed." She gave him a wink. The mouse was very well timed, and their meeting was additionally so. She finished her meal, starting to eat slowing but eventually ended up scarfing it down. Cardinal flicked an ear when Eros' asked her his question. She smiled. "Kind of, mostly. My mother was a loner, my father was from EnergyClan." She spat the word father. The only thing he ever did was mate with her mother, then leave her. "I only met him one time, that I can remember... And I'm not interested in meeting him again. My siblings and I were born in EnergyClan territory, my mother tried to find my father, and she sure did alright... He took two of our siblings right after we were born. No idea what happened to them." She shuffled her paws, tucking them under herself and continuing. "Or that's what my mother told us. Later when I met him the second time, the time I can actually remember myself, we were attacked by a Twoleg and my father came and helped us. Mother always told us that our father had died before we were born, but we learnt that he was our father. After that, never saw him again, thankfully so. Since then, I've never ventured back on clan territory. So I've pretty well been a loner my whole life." She repeated his question to finally conclude after speaking for so long. Cardinal took a deep breath to get some more oxygen in her brain. She never really talked for so much at a time before. Especially not as of late, with no one being around. "What about you, Eros?" She smiled, excited to hear his life story. He must of had some thing exciting going on in his life! He had many moons on her, but given is current looks, he must of been around the she-cats a lot. She chuckled slightly to her own thoughts. Even if his fur looked a little beaten up with scars, Cardinal looked into his eyes and could tell that the fire in his eyes weren't there for the first time today. He seemed like he could be a little feisty once he had some energy in him. She was excited to hear his story and see how he would be now that he had something in his stomach.

Eros chewed thoughtfully, picking at the remains of his mouse now. He was intrigued with her story, but not to surprised. After all, he used to be part of the clans as well. The memories started to flood back in to his brain. The toms body relaxed at the thought of spending his days wandering across Forceclan territory, following Rasenganblood around like a lost kit. He was his greatest mentor and he had followed him to the end. "I was born a loner, but like most of us wandering around here we all get caught up with the clans eventually." He started, his eyes gleaming. The wind picked up slightly, billowing against his fur, as if a warning not to delve to deep in to these thoughts. It was these events that had brought him back out here again. He closed his emerald eyes and was met by a pair of hazel grey eyes staring back at him. The warm glow of her eyes made his heart skip, and he could still smell the heavenly scent of her gray tabby coat. The nights where they slept tightly stitched together as if they were one complete being. "I met the most brilliant she-cat there. She was far more beautiful than any flower on this green Earth, and the spirit within her was untamed. I could sense it within her since the beginning." A smirk appeared from the corners of his mouth as he reminisced about the time they first met along the border. She was contagious and spread love through his heart like wildfire. Eros was at a lost for words. He had never truly talked about Hazelleaf to any cat before. The wind died, as if giving up on the heartbreak that would ensue. He opened his emerald eyes, staring through Cardinal as if she weren't even there. He could see Hazelleaf off in the distance, playing amongst the flowers, waiting for him to catch up. The white tom sighed peacefully, losing himself in the daydream.

Cardinal smiled a big smile. "Oh Eros, that's so sweet! Where is she? What happened?" She was hopeful, but based on how she found him, she assumed the answer couldn't be good. Her smile ceased to exist, and turned more into a frown. "Sorry... I think I can make some assumptions based on how you were here by yourself. I'm sorry... I would love to hear more about her though," she meowed. Cardinal now felt uneasy with herself, socially awkward. She felt bad that she had let her mouth run before her brain could check it over. She tucked her wings in tight, wanting to feel smaller and smaller.

Eros felt as if he had been struck through the heart. The daydream vanished and he was back in the magnolia fields with this loner she-cat. He dug his long claws in to the earth and grit his teeth as the heart ache shook him. "It's alright, Cardinal. It had been all my fault that she's gone. I was very young and very, very violent." he meowed. His emerald eyes shifted to the she-cat in front of him, as he focused on staying in the present day. "There was a tomcat that I respected very much, but his heart was not good. He tried to overthrow the leader and when he failed I followed him instead of staying with her." Memories of his violent self lashing out at Hazelleaf rose to the surface. He had almost killed her, more than once. "Eventually she had met another tom, but I would have nothing of it..so I killed him and attacked her brother." He felt his stomach turn at the memory of all the bloodshed at his claws. Eros truly felt like a monster. He could have let her be happy, but instead he was incredibly selfish. "That was many moons ago." He finished, shifting uncomfortably. He had just confessed to be a bloody murderer, and doubted this she-cat would want to be around him much longer. There was to much between him and Hazelleaf to sum up. It was to much of an emotional toll to take.

Cardinal's eyes had widened. He... had killed someone? She shook her head slightly. "Well, I'm sorry that it didn't work out between the two of you." She didn't know what else to say. She felt the temptation to leave after hearing this new information, but he was still the first cat she had actually seen in many moons. Cardinal would rather be with him then by herself again. "It must've been hard. She pushed a smile onto her face, hoping that maybe it could help comfort him; it would've been very hard to see something like that happen, the one you love with someone else. In her opinion, yes, it was extreme to kill him, but he did mention he was violent so it certainly fit his character trait. Cardinal blinked slowly, relaxing her wings and eventually her mind.

A devilish grin appeared across Eros' maw. Indeed, it was hard, but that was the life he had chosen. He shifted his weight so his hind legs could stretch, and he was in a more docile position. He could only imagine what Cardinal was thinking of him now and he didn't want to make the she-cat any more uncomfortable. "Yes, it was at first. It was a long time ago now and I will probably never see her again. I've gotten over it, mostly." He was lying through his teeth. Eros liked to believe he was over Hazelleaf, but those eyes and that purr would haunt his mind until the end. The tom licked his exposed pink dappled belly in a soothing manner. "Have you ever taken a mate?" He looked back at Cardinal with a curious glow in his gaze as he attempted to smoothly transition the topic. Eros felt his anxieties about his past diminish as he focused on the beautiful she-cat before him. No matter what age he was, Eros would never lose that flirtatious flame inside of him. There was always something so dangerously alluring about love and the way the heart ached for another. He loved how easy it controlled them. Eros' eyes softened, but the beating of his heart still sounded loudly. "I'm sorry. That must have sounded very rude of me." He added, anticipating Cardinals' response.
